Participation Memo

Subject: Class Participation
I believe that I should get at least a 45/50 for participation in ENGL 326, Writing for design professions. I showed up ready to work for class and actively participated in small group discussions as well as the blackboard discussions. I should say that I found the class quite useful which made attending and participating all the easier. I’ll argue my case for the grade I think I deserve through the following three points:
- Attendance
- Class contributions
- Work Ethic
Attendance
I attended class as often as I could. If I recalled correctly I missed about three classes, not including the week I missed with the flu. The three classes that I missed were never on purpose. The times I missed was a direct result from staying up to work on my architecture projects, resulting in me sleeping through my alarms, I’m a heavy sleeper. I deducted 5 points for this absence, as stated on the assignment sheet.
Class Contributions
I feel I met the requirements outlined on the assignment sheet for participation; therefore I received the full 25 points possible. As mentioned on the sheet, I’m not very comfortable in large groups discussing things, so I made the most of the small group and blackboard discussions. I particularly enjoyed the use of Second Life as a learning tool, it made conversing with others much easier and provided a more relaxed feel to learning.
Work Ethic
I believe I should get the full 25 points for work ethic as well. I spend countless hours working on the assignments throughout the semester. I didn’t particularly mind the extra effort this class took because it has benefited my writing skills greatly, as well as being a tremendous asset to my schooling and job hunt progress. I always took advantage of in class critique times and frequently had peers review some of my writings outside of class.
As you can see in the previous points, I enjoyed this class more than what I was anticipating before the semester started. This made it quite easy and effortless to attend class and participate. The days where I didn’t work on this class are few and far between, which is why I feel I deserve the 45/50 points.
