Subject: Explaining my personal fact sheet
My personal fact sheet is short and to the point. I would describe myself as I like things to be simple, clutter free, and easy to use. This is why I chose to layout my personal fact sheet on one page, organized into three columns. I hate when I have reference documents that require flipping, call it a pet peeve but I just hate it and will more often than not, won’t use it if it requires flipping. This is why mine is one page, because I’ll actually use it. I’ve also only included the information that I want to have when typing. I wasn’t about to add a bunch of half there filler text just to add length, the points on my sheet are the topics I’ve looked up throughout the year and will continue to use. These points are:
- Principals of writing for impact
- The five factors
- A quick section on memos
- Some information on citing sources
- Relevant websites
Principals of writing for impact
I included these principals because they are a great way to put together an informative document that makes sense. Too often in my writing I tend to go off in tangents and start rambling on about certain things. These points look to keep me on topic and write proper documents.
The Five Factors
I’ve included the five factors for similar reasons as the principals of writing for impact. These are a means of helping me start documents and stay on topic, while focusing on my audience to make sure I present relevant information.
Memos
I put the memo section in because I feel that is one of the more worthwhile tasks we’ve done this semester. I’ve seen memo’s used frequently and never knew how to approach them before this class. It is a skill that I’m glad to have picked up sooner rather than later and will continue to use them, that’s why there included.
Citing sources
This one was a no brainer for me. I have a really hard time citing sources, and it is something I will continue to work on. The downfall of a lot of my previous papers was that readers never knew where I was getting my information, this is why I have the in text citation repeated on the document. I never cite my sources in text and it is something I definitely need to get better at. This class has especially helped me work out the kinks in my sources.
Relevant websites
This one was seemed pretty common sense to include. I do a lot of my research through the web and having a decent list of websites that I can use to my advantage is always a plus. I first found out about most of these websites through this class and they have all proved quite useful. I especially like the creative commons one; it is a great place to gather free images with the potential of helping me cite it later on.
These points are the top five skills I’ve used the most this semester. To sum up quickly what the five points do is pretty easy, they help me start, clarify, and apply relevant information in a properly cited way. That is what I would consider I worked hardest on this semester and it’s what I’ll continue to work on thanks to a clutter free fact sheet.
Respectfully,
