Dear Karann Macnealy,
I am a third year architecture student in a five year masters of architecture program at North Dakota State University. I am writing in regards to the graphic designer position that was posted on your Seattle firm’s website. Although I’m not a graphic designer I feel I could provide a better knowledge base in dealing with architecture presentations as well as have stronger desire to excel in this job. I believe that I could learn a lot working at your firm creating boards for your presentations as well as better my presentation skills with real world applications.
In your ad posted on the website you mentioned the following qualifications:
- Minimum of two years working on graphic design presentations
- Proficiency in design software as well as Adobe and Microsoft products
- Ability to visualize forms and integrate graphics
- Proven organizational skills
Looking at this list of qualifications I believe I can meet what you’re looking for in the following ways:
- I’m in my 3rd year as a design student and have put together presentations that cover all of the projects I’ve worked on to date, portfolios from classes taken as well as a portfolio to gain acceptance into the architecture program, I’ve also done layouts for the presentation of city analysis for group projects
- I’ve been working with the CAD software Sketchup and Revit to produce designs as well as the Adobe Creative Suite 4 and Microsoft Office 2007 to put together presentations
- I have a strong ability to visualize forms and have attached several sketches of how I compose a presentation
- In previous work experience and group projects, I have had to demonstrate the ability to stay organized and communicate ideas effectively and was rewarded for my work.
I believe I meet everything that you’re looking for in this graphic design position. I really enjoy the work your firm does especially your focus to creating a greener future. I would love to work for you out in your new LEED Platinum office building and really experience what Perkins and Will creates.
